The key thing is that the player should use all of his knowledge of the game. Having the right knowledge and skills can often mean the difference between winning and losing. A nice basic strategy is to first figure out what kind of hand you are playing.
This is important for everyone who wants to play Texas Holdem, not just the beginners. Then you simply try to figure out what type of hand you have to play against another player. How many cards would you be looking for when you are holding A-K-Q-J-T? What is your opening range?
When you know what your starting hand is going to be it’s a good idea to make a list of all of the other players’ cards. Start by listing all of the players on the left. Next, go through their list and see which ones are left with a particular suit. (These are called the leading suits)
Go over these hands again and try to get a feel for what kind of hand you might be getting. If there is a color that you are not comfortable with, remember that there may be a color in the middle that you are looking for. If the highest value color is really in your range, then it may be worth your while to consider this as your best bet.
It may take a bit of trial and error to find a color that you are comfortable with. But keep trying! A simple mistake could cost you money.
Just don’t make the mistake of thinking that this game is a “fun” way to lose real money. You can lose real money without even realizing it. It happens. Just get as much practice as you can, and when you can get into a good position you should be able to know what your next move should be.
