No One Will Believe This Review – Kyle Cartwright Book Review

Poker Articles

From the moment he began work on “The Poker Face” we knew he was a pro. We knew that in this first volume, he would prove it yet again.

We thought for sure that when a young novice like Kyle Cartwright can write a book as successful as “The Poker Face” that the first book would be a smash hit. We didn’t think so much. The book sold less than 300 copies which I thought was pretty darned disappointing.

As it turned out, our expectations were way too high. He wrote a superb book that entertained while delivering important information. It’s one of the best books that I’ve read all year. He never complained about his writing career and when he did, he delivered it with enthusiasm.

The truth is that he could have written this book in six months, but he decided to write it over a period of three years. In that time he read literally thousands of books, magazine articles, books, and websites in his effort to gather valuable material for his book. He had to be willing to expand the scope of the book so that it wouldn’t be too dry, too academic, or too difficult to understand.

Part of the reason why the book didn’t sell as well as we hoped is that Kyle Cartwright was running from his own recent success as a professional poker player. He needed to get away from it for a while, take a few deep breaths, and re-energize himself for his second book. It certainly wasn’t easy, but he was a master story teller and that made it all worthwhile.

The second reason why it wasn’t as successful as we hoped is that it was too short. It’s not exactly a novel; it’s more of a collection of anecdotes that offer a different view of poker from those who have already been playing at the highest levels. That’s fine, but it does not work as a standalone novel, much less as an ebook or a short story.

This is not to say that Kyle Cartwright wasn’t a good poker player. He probably was. It’s just that he was cut off from the intellectual part of the game that he once enjoyed so much. It also gave him the perspective needed to write his book, which we all wish more than anything else to accomplish.

Some people may think that this book is about a card shark like Kyle Cartwright. Kyle Cartwright is not a card shark, but he is one of the most talented writers to come along in a long time. Most of his subjects are fairly light and often humorous, but if you choose to read them for the first time you’ll soon realize how dense they are.

In fact, Kyle Cartwright may be the most intelligent person I’ve ever met in my entire life. And the depth of his intelligence is seen in his ability to speak to the reader in such a way that he holds their attention even as he shares some very tough information.

If you’re looking for an easy read, this book is definitely not for you. If you’re looking for an intellectual one, then this book may be just what you’re looking for. It’s definitely for poker novices, but that’s just the problem, because the more you read, the more you know.

I was thrilled to receive the book. I realized that I hadn’t read it, but I assumed that Kyle Cartwright had told me that it was done. When I opened it and began reading, I was blown away.

It was a deeply intellectual book. The only drawback is that it’s not a short story. Those who want a short story will be happy with that side of the book, but those who want to read something that challenges their thinking will find much to delight in.
